Menopause, silence, and shame.

Without tapping into too many different social and historical topics, the two day seminar we attended in Rotorua, New Zealand today and yesterday highlighted some crucial questions for us here in the clinic.

Why is it, that so many clients, (over 51% of the general population in New Zealand, Women), are all going to face Menopause. But, they know next to nothing about it, or very little anyway. And why is that? Where is the benefit for women not being educated enough about their own bodies. To think the struggle that a person can face with one symptom alone (whether it be hormonal, physical, or emotional) on a day to day level, but that in the phases of menopause, that women gradually begin to feel many symptoms daily is shocking. It highlight that same expectation women have always faced of always having to silence and withstand pain or discomfort.
Medical specialists, whether they be GPs, dermatologists, psychiatrists, gynaecologists daily to understand menopause. It's a common thing to hear that women have sought medical care or help but have been failed. Why? Because these specialists weren't educated properly in their medical training.

But this is changing, and we're making sure to understand everything we can about one of the biggest and most important parts of a women's physical body/ vessel and the journey going through it. Over time, we're going to unpack what it is to go through menopause, let alone the impact on yourself and your skin.
