Those fine red or purple lines around the sides of the nose are usually telangiectasia — small, dilated blood vessels that have become visible through the surface of the skin.

The nose is particularly prone to them because it has a dense network of superficial blood vessels and is an area regularly exposed to environmental stress, temperature changes and UV radiation.

Over time, repeated dilation of these vessels can contribute to them becoming persistently enlarged and visible.

Several factors can play a role, including:

• Genetics and naturally visible vasculature
• Chronic UV exposure and photodamage
• Rosacea and vascular reactivity
• Frequent flushing
• Repeated exposure to hot and cold temperatures
• Inflammation within the skin
• Age-related changes to the skin and supporting connective tissue

And despite commonly being called “broken capillaries,” they usually aren’t actually broken. In most cases, the vessel is still intact, it has simply become permanently dilated enough to be seen through the skin.

This is also why skincare can help support redness and vascular health, but cannot make an established visible vessel physically disappear.

The good news? Established nasal capillaries can be treated.

Using 1064nm Nd laser, we can selectively target haemoglobin within the visible vessel, causing it to coagulate and gradually be cleared by the body, without needing to treat the surrounding skin.

This is exactly what our Vascu Clear treatment is designed to do. Tiny vessels. Surprisingly complicated biology.
