Considering UV Treatments? Assessment comes first.

Professional UV treatments delivered within a clinical skin health framework.

A considered approach to UV Treatments (historically known as sunbeds) and deciding whether they are the right treatments for you.

Ultraviolet (UV) exposure isn't suitable for everyone. That's why every UV treatment at Lafont Advanced Skin Clinic begins with a comprehensive consultation, skin assessment, and informed consent process.

Many clients who enquire about UV treatments have concerns such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, or seborrhoeic dermatitis, however treatment recommendations are always based on individual suitability, risk factors, medical history, and skin type.

Our role is to assess whether UV treatment is appropriate for you- not simply provide treatment on request.

All UV treatments are delivered within a structured clinical framework and are only available following therapist approval.

Understanding UV Treatment suitability.

Not everyone is suitable for UV treatments (historically known as sunbeds). Factors such as skin type, medical history, medication use, previous UV exposure, and individual risk factors all play an important role in determining whether treatment may be appropriate. Here's a closer look at some of the factors considered during your consultation.

Fitzpatrick Skin Type

Your Fitzpatrick Skin Type helps determine how your skin responds to ultraviolet exposure. Skin type is one of the most important factors considered during assessment and influences treatment suitability, exposure protocols, and safety recommendations.

Medical History

Certain medical conditions may influence whether UV treatment is appropriate. A thorough review of your personal and family medical history forms part of every consultation to help identify potential contraindications and risk factors.

Medication & Photosensitivity

Some medications and supplements can increase sensitivity to UV exposure. We review all current medications before treatment to ensure UV exposure is considered safely and appropriately.

Previous UV Exposure

Previous sun exposure, tanning history, and prior UV treatments are important considerations. Understanding your exposure history helps guide treatment recommendations and ongoing monitoring.

Common reasons clients seek UV Treatments.

People seek UV treatment consultations for many different reasons. Every consultation is clinically tailored to the individual and focuses on safety, suitability, and informed decision-making.

Psoriasis Eczema Dermatitis Seasonal Changes & Reduced Sunlight Exposure Individual Assessment

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that commonly presents with thickened, red, scaly plaques and periods of flare and remission. Severity and presentation can vary considerably between individuals.

Eczema

Eczema is a common skin condition characterised by dryness, itching, sensitivity, and impaired skin barrier function. Symptoms may fluctuate over time and can be influenced by environmental, lifestyle, and individual factors.

Dermatitis

Dermatitis refers to inflammation of the skin and may occur for a variety of reasons, including irritants, allergens, environmental triggers, and skin barrier dysfunction. Symptoms commonly include redness, irritation, itching, and discomfort.

Seasonal Changes & Reduced Sunlight Exposure

Some clients seek consultation during periods of reduced daylight hours, seasonal change, or lower levels of natural sunlight exposure. Individual circumstances and suitability are assessed during consultation.

Individual Assessment

Every client is unique. Medical history, medications, skin type, previous UV exposure, and individual risk factors are carefully reviewed before any treatment recommendations are made.

Why professional guidance matters

#

UV treatments (sunbeds) aren't suitable for everyone. Factors such as skin type, medical history, medications, previous UV exposure, and individual risk factors all need to be carefully considered before treatment is recommended.

At Lafont Advanced Skin Clinic, we don't take a one-size-fits-all approach. Every client undergoes a consultation and skin assessment to help determine suitability and ensure treatment recommendations are made within a clinical skin health framework.

Our focus is on informed decision-making, professional oversight, and ensuring every client understands both the potential considerations and responsibilities associated with UV treatment.

Because when it comes to UV exposure, assessment should always come before treatment.

Comfortable, Informed & Confident

How long does a UV Treatment take?

Most appointments are relatively short, with exposure times varying depending on skin type, treatment history and individual protocols.

How often can I have a UV Treatment?

Frequency varies between individuals. Consistency is often important when following a UV therapy programme, and treatment schedules are discussed during consultation. There must be a day in between each treatment also.

New clients must complete a consultation and consent form to determine suitability and establish appropriate exposure guidelines.

Can I purchase individual sessions?

Yes. Single UV therapy sessions are available.

Both units provide UV exposure. The most suitable option may depend on personal preference, comfort and availability.

How is my treatment time determined?

Exposure times are based on factors such as skin type, previous UV exposure and treatment history.

What should I wear during treatment?

Your clinician will discuss clothing, eye protection and any other requirements before your session.

Do I need to wear goggles?

Yes. Protective eyewear is mandatory for every treatment.
